What is LongTurn and why?

LongTurn is Freeciv game with timeout close to 24h. It's game which you can play few months, and spent only few minutes a day.

As you can read at COP LT Page (organizer of LT0 game), there are few reasons to play LongTurn game:

1. classical multiplayer game with timeout=60s is rather like RTS deathmatch,
2. it is hard to develop advanced strategy during the on-line game,
3. playing big maps on the on-line server is boring,
4. players are usually disconnecting then something goes wrong and trying anoter on-line game,
5. players are disconnecting if a game is too long or they must go home/to bed /to work etc.,
6. modem players can't play on-line games if they must pay for the connection time.

All reasons (maybe except the last - they wrote it long few years ago) are up to date.

Game lifecycle

  • Before game is started, one can post voting to change some rule.
  • Before, during or after votings, submission is open and players can sign to given game (i.e. LT11).
  • After all players are signed up, and all votings are closed (all changes to ruleset/settings are made), game is started.

The summary of differences

The summary of differences was copied to http://www.longturn.org/lt9-vs... and that is the page I have made a couple of edits too since the original post.
