This is similar to the vote we had for lt11.
It effects whether "All the map is temperate" and "Whether the poles are separate continents"
The settings allowed for alltemperate are
0 = normal Earth-like planet; 1 = all-temperate planet
The settings allowed for separatepoles are
0 = continents may attach to poles; 1 = poles will usually be separate
The defaults in freeciv 2.1 create a separate glacial north and south pole. I suggest we alter these to the lt11 settings. That means all the map has similar temperature terrain and that we do not have a North and South pole.
For more information read the previous thread especially grover's comment. He has tested this on 2.1.3
We have already voted for a donut world in LTXIII.
. I think it is this setting that will remove the edge strips that caused problems in lt11 and lt12.
The possible server settings are :-
1. Longturn 11 onwards (alltemperate=1, separatepoles=0)
2. Change to (alltemperate=0, separatepoles=0)
3. Change to (alltemperate=1, separatepoles=1)
4. Freeciv default (alltemperate=0, separatepoles=1)

Testing with the longturn settings
Here is a method that works on windows.
1. Create a subfolder in your freeciv program directory named LTXIII.
2. Download all the ruleset files into this folder.
3. Save the server settings file as LTXIII.settings.serv into this folder.
4. Add the line below to LTXIII.settings
rulesetdir LTXIII
5. Start freeciv with the command civserver.exe -read LTXIII\LTXIII.settings.serv
But you found islands
But you found islands everywhere. Seems to suggest small islands.
I just used default/random settings for % landmass etc. I had a handful of large islands (probably not enought for 30 people). I will probably need to put maho's settings on my computer. I haven't done that before - can somebody with experience please do that??? Otherwise I will try and have a go.
I don't understand what "the continents are continuous across boundaries" means. There are no boundaries, as the map wraps as your scroll. Maybe he never scrolled??
Thanks for checking these
Thanks for checking these settings.
Does this imply we need to change the land mass setting as well?
According to grover .. "the continents are continuous across boundaries." Seems to suggest large islands.

I think LTXIII will start soon so don't want to add any more votes. But are the results you got creating a map that is actually good to play.
Are you sure? I think I
I think I agree with pepeto (but not absolutlely positive). I have done tests and when map is alltemperate there are no detectible "poles".
What is a pole anyway? A round blob of ice. With alltemperate there are no round blobs of green, just islands everywhere. All islands look roughly equal in terrain. With donut world there are no strips on any of the edges (as there are no edges).
I would guess we don't want anybody starting on blobs of ice (this might be taken into account though) and we definitely don't want anybody starting on a blob of ice not connected to land.
PS - on a side note it seems there are no strips of land for any of the map topologies now...

Are you sure? Aren't they
Are you sure? Aren't they just green poles? Or perhaps green strips.
A beautifully laid out poll.
A beautifully laid out poll. Well done :-)
However, in the same post, Pepto points out that "with alltemperate=1, there [are] no poles, so separatepoles becomes a dum[b] setting"

I voted for option 1 because
I voted for option 1 because it is the one that grover tested on freeciv 2.1.3 with donut topology
